XXX Illusion Knitting: Get Your Spook On!!

Illusion knitting is perfect for striped scarves, pillows, blankets and even framed wall art.  This class teaches the technique to start on a project of your choosing.   Barbara suggests that given the timing of the class you consider the free pattern "Mark's Skull Illusion Scarf" by Cathy Munoz on Ravelry.  We have it on display at LYS!! 




Students can also choose between the Family Illusion Scarf which features the Chinese characters for Love, Family, Harmony, and Happiness.  Another scarf option is the Butterfly Illusion Scarf.  Both patterns are free on Ravelry.  At class we can talk about other Illusion projects you can consider in the future, including a Teddy Bear Illusion Blanket, Dinosaur Illusion Blanket, Panda Illusion Blanket.  These are all designed by Steve Plummer. 
In class you will learn to read charts for shadow knitting and how to carry yarn up the side of your work. 
Materials needed are based on the project you choose.  Any weight yarn can be used although the overall dimension will change.  Barb suggests Fingering or DK wt for these projects.  Two contrasting colors are needed for all the projects.  The knitted fabric should be tight for illusion knitting. Adjust needle size down for the weight of the yarn you choose.  So, if the yarn calls for a size 8 needle, use a size 7.  Homework:  Choose and print your pattern and select yarn. 

Suggested DK wt yarn:  The sample in the store was knit with Millefiori by Berroco, and Luma by Kelbourne Woolens.
