Longmont Yarn Shoppe Finishing Retreat

After a fantastic retreat in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains in March/April 2022, we can’t wait to return to the Dao House in August 2022 for another three days of unplugged (i.e. there is no cell or internet services) relaxation and rejuvenation! The rustically picturesque Dao House is nestled between Longs Peak and Twin Sisters Mountain, at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. You’ll join an intimate gathering of fiber lovers enjoying the community of others, majestic scenery, and exquisite organic and locally focused meals that are conscientiously farmed and harvested.

The primary goal of the weekend is to relax and reconnect with like-minded knitters (and fiber “makers”) to move guilt-ridden UFOs closer to satisfying FOs! To help achieve that end, Ann Budd will teach a 1-hour class on Tips for Finishing Finesse, and each participant will have 20 minutes of one-on-one time with Ann to get help with finishing techniques, sort out any knitting problems, or get expert advice on a current or future project. The weekend will motivate you to finish those languishing projects!

In addition, you’ll learn the fundamentals of yarn dyeing with Jennifer Miller of Theodora’s Pearls and then apply that knowledge in small groups to dye two skeins of yarn provided by Jennifer! Ann Budd will provide a pattern to turn a skein of your hand-dyed yarn into a “souvenir” cowl.

The rest of time you can enjoy the comradery of other attendees, stroll the 84 acres of Rocky Mountain wilderness, or take advantage of the additional services offered at Dao House, including tai chi, horseback riding, bio mat therapy, foot soaks, and an oxygen lounge. Do as much or as little as you want.

The LYS Finishing Retreat begins with check-in Thursday, August 18, and ends after breakfast Sunday, August 21.

Following breakfast on Sunday, we’ll re-locate to Longmont Yarn Shoppe from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm for private shopping and special deals.

The all-inclusive price for the weekend is $1370 for a single room, $1120 for a double, or $1030 for a triple. Safety

For everyone’s safety and protection, proof of full vaccination is required for all attendees. We also ask that all attendees take a COVID 19 test within two (2) days of arrival and that those with a positive result not check in at the Dao House. We will follow the safety guidelines provided by the CDC throughout the retreat.

Your online registration will not be complete until you send a copy of your COVID Vaccine Card and your emergency contact information to Gail at gail@longmontyarn.com.

Be aware that the retreat venue is located at an elevation of north 9,200 feet, which can result in altitude sickness for those coming from significantly lower elevations. Please read tips from the Cleveland Clinic for prevention and treatment of altitude sickness prior to attending the retreat.

Cancellation Policy

A $150 fee will be charged for cancellations after July 15, 2022. If you are able to find a friend to take your place, the cancellation fee will be reduced to a $25 transfer fee.

In the unlikely event that the Longmont Yarn Shoppe needs to cancel the retreat due to COVID or other unforeseen circumstances, your registration fee will be refunded in full.

Testimonials from the March/April Retreat

I loved being with like-minded knitters and seeing what everyone is making. I also loved the yarn dyeing class and visiting with Ann.
- Virginia K.

My favorite part of the retreat was the “community” time. It was so nice to sit & knit!! Loved visiting with each lady and seeing all the WIP and learning about new and future projects. It was perfect all the way around. The swag bag and swap bags are amazing and will be cherished forever!
- Ellen P.

Everything was planned for me – from activities to meals. I was pleasantly surprised by being “off the grid” for cell service and really appreciated being “disconnected” as it helped me reconnect with self and interact with others. Thank you for this amazing opportunity. I am leaving with pleasant memories.
- Carol R.
