Building with Lace is the third publication from renowned knitter and teacher, Michelle Hunter. It is a carefully designed sequence of stitch patterns that introduce knitters to lace work starting with the basics and working towards more difficult stitch patterns to make one elegant shawl. This work follows the same format as Michelle’s earlier publications, Building Blocks and Building in Color, and has been a long awaited addition to this educational series.
This pattern is supported by Michelle’s excellent, and free, online video instruction

The Building with Lace class at the Yarn Shoppe in Longmont was wonderful for many reasons. I was intimidated by the idea of lace knitting but it turned out beautifully. I liked the pattern because it was made continuously with different patterns separated by a few rows of garter stitch. By the time I got tired of one pattern we were on to the next. I loved the beginning and ending of the shawl. It was really fun to make the triangle shapes while beading. It was fun to learn new patterns I have never even heard of and have the feedback from the others in the class. Theresa, the instructor was kind, helpful and very patient. It was interesting to see the yarn and bead combinations of my fellow knitters. I really love the pattern and I will make again. I get compliments on it all of the time.
Although I had been knitting some simple lace patterns for awhile, I wanted to challenge myself to learn more. The Building with Lace class was the perfect opportunity to learn more intricate lace patterns. Theresa was such a patient and considerate instructor. She made it a point to give everyone personalized attention. I thoroughly enjoyed this class with Theresa.
