Weaving the Perfect Towel

Towels are the weaver’s muse. They are the perfect platform to show off all kinds of colorwork, structural elements, and style. Students learn what makes a good towel, techniques for warping fine yarns, weaving with multiple colors, measuring on the loom, and finishing considerations to create a textile that has drape, absorbency, and pizzazz.

This workshop is for the advanced beginner. Students should have warped and woven a couple of projects. We will weave a wee towel in class to demonstrate the techniques. A pattern for a larger version will be available for you to try on your own. Yarn for workshop available for purchase at shop.

Supplies Needed: Two balls of BC Barn Alba or appropriate substitution in two different contrasting colors, a rigid-heddle loom with at least an 8’’ weaving width, 8-dent rigid heddle, 2-3 shuttles, warping peg, clamps, threading hook, warp beam packing material (paper or sticks). Optional: Tapestry needle, tape measure, scissors.  NOTE:  Alba will be in stock at LYS by mid July.  This is a new yarn for us, and we are getting it just for this class!

Students will leave class with a lovely dishtowel and lots of tips and tricks, having shared the day with an expert rigid heddle weaver.  We are thrilled to host Liz at LYS!
