Make it Your Own: Top-Down Raglan Sweater Class with Ann Budd VIA ZOOM!

In this six-lesson, eight-week online class, you’ll learn how to use the charted instructions in The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters to knit yourself a raglan sweater with help from Ann Budd every step of the way. You’ll choose between a pullover and cardigan, and between crewneck and V-neck shaping. You’ll also choose the weight of yarn (from fingering to bulky) and the finished size (from 26” to 54” bust/chest circumference).

Everyone will follow the same basic instructions, though it’s quite possible that no two students will use the same size, gauge, or stitch pattern.

In the first lesson you’ll learn to knit a proper gauge swatch, and how to choose the correct size. In the following moderated knit-a-long lessons, Ann will demonstrate each of the key steps in knitting a top-down sweater (no seams!) with raglan shaping (great for horizontal stripes or narrow stitch panels along the raglan "lines").

In addition to providing tips and tricks and answering questions along the way, Ann will discuss how to make simple modifications, including adjusting sleeve length and adding waist or A-line shaping.By the end of class, you’ll be able to follow (and adapt) any of the 600 charted patterns in The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.Worksheets for measuring gauge and following the instructions in The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters will be provided.

Requirements: Must be comfortable with sweater construction (back, fronts, sleeves, neckband), simple multiplication and division, and commit to keeping up with class. Must have a copy of The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.

Yarn suggestions from Ann include:  Yakkity Yak in Fingering Semi SolidTonals, and Variegated or DK by Greenwood Fiber Studio, Darnie or Soft Donegal by Studio Donegal, Juniper Moon PatagoniaAmble by The Fiber Co, Shepherd's Wool by Stonehedge, Berroco Ultra Wool in FingeringDK or Worsted Wt., Sun Valley MCN or Sun Valley Worsted.  Plymouth Yarns Quaker Hill.  Coastal by Elemental Affects (we have more coming in) and Wool Pop by Universal yarns.  Malabrigo SockMechaArroyoRios.

Please note that hand-dyed yarns require special techniques to camouflage possible color variations between skeins. Ann will cover these techniques in the first class.

Students must purchase their yarn from Longmont Yarn Shoppe, and can enjoy a 10% materials discount on purchases for this class using code ANNBUDD10 online.

Testimonials from previous students:

Thank you! I enjoyed the class and learned so much from Ann. My understanding about customizing knits using math has increased ten fold.

Linda S.

Thanks so much for hosting Ann's class.  I was hesitant at first, but am so glad that I enrolled.  I learned so much on so many different topics.  Ann's guidance was more helpful than I can say.  The biggest take away from the class is that I am confident that with the help of Ann's book, I can knit any sweater in any pattern in any yarn I want - and that sweater will fit the intended recipient.  I'm so excited to start a second sweater.

I absolutely loved this class. Ann is such a lovely lady and is so knowledgeable. Ann makes this process so easy and not scary. The best part was that for the first time ever I knit myself a sweater that fits perfectly !!!
