Stranded Knitting - Make a Hat or Cowl (in person)

You can knit and purl, you can cast-on and off, and you can knit in the round. Now you can impress yourself and others by adding color-work to your skill set. Learn basic stranded knitting in the round with this stylish hat.  Don't wear hats?  Don't worry, you can make a cowl instead!

PLEASE NOTE- There is homework before first class so the entire class can be spent learning the techniques!   Also, you will learn to carry yarn in BOTH hands in this class.  Prepare to expand your knitting skills!

This class is held in person at LYS in the classroom, practicing proper social distancing.

Yarn - 2 contrasting colors of worsted wt yarn, (light colors will make reading stitches easier)
Recommended- Rios by Malabrigo, Sun Valley Worsted, Soft Donegal, Sun Valley Merino or Ultra Wool by Berroco - worsted wt.
Not Recommended- cotton yarns or blends with acrylic.
1 skein of each color will be enough to make both the cowl and hat with pom pom
Cowl:  US  6 & 8  - 24 inch circular needle
Hat:  US 6 & 8 - 16 inch circular needle, US 8 DPNs for the top of the hat.
Stitch markers- please bring 12 stitch markers.

Homework to complete before class!   Cast on and knit as follows.
With US 6 -  16" needle for hat and 24" for cowl cast on 96 sts for hat and 120 sts for cowl.  Join and knit in ribbing in the round.  (K1,P1) for 8 rounds.

Note- if you are making the cowl, since it is more stitches around, you may not make it up to the section where we discuss how to secure long floats.  You are welcome to come in after class for hands on coaching with this.
