Stranded Knitting - Make a Hat or Cowl (in person)
You can knit and purl, you can cast-on and off, and you can knit in the round. Now you can impress yourself and others by adding color-work to your skill set. Learn basic stranded knitting in the round with this stylish hat. Don't wear hats? Don't worry, you can make a cowl instead!
PLEASE NOTE- There is homework before first class so the entire class can be spent learning the techniques! Also, you will learn to carry yarn in BOTH hands in this class. Prepare to expand your knitting skills!
Materials:
Yarn - 2 contrasting colors of worsted wt yarn, (light colors will make reading stitches easier)
Recommended- Rios by Malabrigo, Soft by Studio Donegal, Sun Valley 100% Superwash Merino or Ultra Wool by Berroco - worsted wt.
Not Recommended- cotton yarns or blends with acrylic.
1 skein of each color will be enough to make both the cowl and hat
Needles-
Cowl: US 6 & 8 - 24 inch circular needle
Hat: US 6 & 8 - 16 inch circular needle, US 8 DPNs for the top of the hat.
Stitch markers- please bring 12 stitch markers.
Homework to complete before class! Cast on and knit as follows.
For hat: with US 6 - 16" needle for hat cast on 96 stitches
For cowl: with US 6 - 24" needle cast on 120 sts
FOR BOTH - Join being careful not to twist and knit in ribbing (K1, P1) in the round for 8 rounds.
