Dye Your Own Yarn Naturally: A Workshop W/Theresa Hornstein

This workshop will provide an opportunity for students to learn plant identification, a bit of natural history, and how to use these otherwise undesirable species to create beautiful colors.  Experimentation will include the use of modifiers and mordants, the different processing of plant and animal fibers, and several different methods for obtaining colors. We cover safety, what an invasive species is and why they are bad for the environment.  Basic techniques for dyeing, plant versus animal fibers will also be covered.

MATERIALS: 8-25yd. skeins of Happy Feet sock weight yarn will be provided for each student
** Students should bring a few bags for the yarn to bring home in, it will still be damp.  Also bring something to takes notes with.
** Students can bring a lunch or a snack for the break.
** A handout will be provided at the class for students.

Cancellation Policy for LYS Classes 

DISCLAIMER: Class may be cancelled if less than 3 students are enrolled. 

If LYS cancels the class, payment for your class will be refunded in full or can be transferred to another upcoming class. If we do need to cancel your class for low enrollment, the decision will be made 24 hours in advance and students will be notified by phone and/or email. 

Class may also be cancelled for inclement weather or instructor illness. Students will be notified by phone if this happens and can attend the rescheduled class or have their class fee returned 100%.

Refund Policy for LYS Classes 

If you need to return your class enrollment for a refund for any reason, we completely understand! Sometimes things pop up and life gets in the way of our crafting. 

See the time table below for eligible refunds on LYS classes: 

• At least 72 hours prior notice — 100% refund 

• 24 - 72 hours prior notice — 50% refund for store credit 

• Less than 24 hours prior notice — Not eligible for a refund. 

Student no-shows are also not eligible for a refund.
