Rigid Heddle 1 (in person)

This class will introduce you to the power of the rigid heddle loom! We’ll cover weaving terminology, how to set up the loom and of course how to weave. We’ll create a variety of fabrics and textures using plain weave and pick up stick patterns.By the end of the class you will be able to warp and weave on the rigid heddle loom on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who has been wanting to learn how to weave but hasn’t been sure where to start!

Materials List: 

scissors- to be brought from home

10 inch or wider rigid heddle loom and all supplies for warping and weaving.

Students who have their own rigid heddle loom with a 10 dent reed and a pick up stick can use their own loom. 

15 inch Looms will also be available to rent to students.  Rental fee is 30.00 for duration of class and can be applied towards purchase of a loom at the conclusion of class. 

Paper or corrugated cardboard to wind onto the loom from home (or part of loom rental).

2 balls of yarn (two colors) to be picked on the first day of class - Brown Sheep Yarn Naturespun Sport or Universal Bamboo Pop

Instructor will bring handouts.

Instructor: Sara Goldenberg White
Instructor Bio: Sara Goldenberg White has been teaching weaving along the Front Range for over a decade. Her passion for weaving and teaching started during her graduate study at CSU. She teaches a variety of fiber techniques but sharing her love of weaving with others is one of her greatest joys. Sara co authored Simple Woven Garments 20+ Projects to Weave and Wear with Jane Patrick. Other projects Sara has woven can be found in The Weaver?s Idea Book, Woven Scarves 26 Inspired Ideas for the Rigid Heddle Loom, Easy Weaving With Little Looms and Handwoven Magazine. Sara also has a lively fine arts practice and has exhibited her work at museums and galleries throughout the country. Sara enjoys the balance of creating her own work and sharing her love of weaving in the classroom, she looks forward to seeing you there!
