Tapestry Weaving with David Johnson VIA ZOOM & In Person - HYBRID format

This class will be offered in a Hybrid format, meaning that students can choose to participate in person or via Zoom. Please note on your registration how you plan to attend.

In this class students will weave tapestries using plain and soumak techniques.  A non-downloadable recording of each class will session will be sent to students within 24 hours of the class to review for 1 week after receiving it.

Session one will include a discussion on the historical and cultural traditions in tapestry weaving and the methods used to produce imagery and pattern. Class two starts with a review of the sample weavings and a conversation on designing and using a “cartoon” to control imagery and pattern allowing participants to come up with their own unique designs. Finally in class three we will continue to weave as well as cover finishing techniques and warping.

To see some of David's work, visit his website:  Arachneweaving.com

The sample photo is an example of David's work, not the class project.  Students will do their own design, after learning the techniques.

Included in the tuition for the class is a warped loom made by the instructor that students get to keep as well as wool weft yarn (Brown Sheep Lanaloft Worsted) in 0.5 oz balls of primary, secondary, black/grey/white, and three browns of different values to equal 12 colors.  Loom/yarn kit will be available for pick up after Feb 4th.  If we are shipping your loom please allow 1- 2 weeks for shipping.  Shipping is an additional fee of 15.00- 25.00 depending on location in the continental US.   Please note in your registration if you  are picking up your loom, or if you would like to have it shipped for an additional fee.

Looms will be available for pick up after February 4th.  Students who need their loom shipped need to register NO LATER THAN Feb 10th at noon to allow for shipping before start of class - with expedited shipping fees.

Student provides:  Scissors and a I-Pad or computer for logging in to zoom for the class.  We have learned that using a phone is too small of a screen for effective learning.  A phone to allow for a 2nd log in with zoom to share progress with the teacher is helpful!

Just wanted to say that I took David Johnson's class is wonderful.  He is a truly amazing talent and a wonderful teacher!  Christy C.
