Yarn for a Perfect Match (In Person)

Have you ever been disappointed by a finished project even though you swatched, matched the pattern gauge, and followed all the instructions? Why do some yarns work great for some projects and not others? In this class we’ll learn how to select a yarn that will be the perfect match for a project. We’ll discuss what qualities we might want in different types of handknit fabrics and projects and how to anticipate which yarns are most likely to deliver the desired results. We’ll compare and contrast 4-5 similar weight wool yarns and ask: How are these yarns made, and what can we learn about the structure and composition of yarn from the label?; Which characteristics can we uncover by dissecting, measuring, or just carefully looking at a sample of the yarn?; Going beyond gauge, what can we learn by comparing swatches knit in multiple stitch patterns for each yarn?; And finally, how do we use all of this information to select the perfect match?
