Joining Granny Squares (Hybrid)

You’ve gotten comfortable with crocheting the classic Granny Square, so now it’s time to learn all the tips and tricks for joining your granny squares together to make a blanket or other projects.

Class will cover 4 methods for joining squares together: Sewing, 2 Crochet joins and a Join-as-you-Go method. We will also cover how to weave in all those ends to create a fabric that is both beautiful and long wearing, plus tricks for blocking and edging your granny square project. For those that want, Andee will show how the 16 squares from the homework can be made into a bag.

Easy Intermediate crochet skills and comfortable with reading a crochet pattern.

MATERIALS:

Print out or E-version of pattern (if E-version may also want some paper to make notes on)

Students will need a crochet hook, size H or I Get your crochet hooks here

Yarn needle for sewing in ends and sewing squares

Smooth Worsted Weight Yarn (medium or light colors are best) in quantities as listed in pattern.

Recommended LYS yarns are: Berroco Ultra Wool, Laramie by Mountain Meadow Wool, Malabrigo Rios, Malabrigo Rios Zodiac, or Coastal Cotton.


HOMEWORK:

Using “Helen’s Yarn Adventures” pattern, Crochet 16 Granny Squares before the class:  4 squares just the first 3 rounds, 12 squares using all 4 rounds.

These are for practice so you can make your squares all in one color if desired. Leave your tails loose on at least 2 of the squares to practice the end weaving techniques in the class.
