Olive Knits January 2023 Workshop Collaboration!

This Olive Knits annual tradition gives us the opportunity to start the new year with a virtual knitting journey - not only to explore new places and historical traditions, but to stretch our knitting skills with the support of community.

This year we’re learning about Bavarian twisted stitch knitting. Marie will take you to Munich - the heart of Bavaria - where she will share the beauty, food, culture and rich textile history as we knit together on this year’s project.

So- if this sounds as great to you as it does to us, first - Sign up HERE at this page for with the 10.00 fee to sign up for the Longmont YaRN Shoppe KAL. Then, Register on the Olive Knits Website by December 27nd & save 30% to access the pattern and tutorials. Olive Knits KAL students will have unlimited access to their workshop and pattern through their course dashboard (does not expire).

Second  secure your yarn with Longmont Yarn Shoppe and have access to our 2 hybrid meet ups for the KAL plus save 10% on your project yarn using code BREZEL10

Those who sign up for our LYS KAL will be invited to our 2 hybird meet ups and have access to our special Steeking Kit available only to KAL participants.  This kit will include steeking scissors, woven ribbon and a whole lot more at a special January KAL price. This kit is available to purchase only to first 24 KAL students who purchase their yarn with Longmont Yarn Shoppe and join our hybrid (zoom & in person) KAL.
In addition, 2 lucky KAL participants will have their name drawn for a 25.00 Gift Certificate to LYS using our random number generator!  We will draw winners at our 2nd meet up! So, get your yarn and register for the LYS meetups today!

Yarn Selection Tips from Marie:

The Olive Knits January Workshop KAL is designed to guide you through the process of creating an heirloom sweater – one that you will wear for life. When choosing yarn, I recommend classic colors and styles – this is something you will want to wear often, so choose a color that will match the clothes you like to wear most.

The ideal yarn
1. Non-superwash is ideal for the style, but if you do want to use superwash, you will have better gauge results with a slightly heavier option
(such as a light DK, rather than a sport weight).
2. Should have excellent stitch definition. (Being able to clearly see each stitch will be necessary to the design.)
3. Is not variegated - not speckled.
4. Tonal or slightly heathered yarns will be fine but use your best judgement.
5. Is not splitty. You will struggle if your yarn is
loosely plied and/or easily splits.
6. I do not recommend really dark yarn for this (black, navy, chocolate brown and dark purple will be too dark, and you will have
a hard time seeing the stitches to work the pattern – trust me on this).
7. “Sticky” rustic wools will be best, but if they are too scratchy or too hot for you, please at least avoid yarn with more than 25% silk,
Tencel, bamboo, or anything super slippery to avoid having a droopy sweater.

FAQs for the KAL

Q:  If I sign up for the Longmont Yarn Shoppe KAL will I get the pattern and course?
A:  No, the pattern and course with Marie Greene are only available through her website. Register for that here and secure the early registration discount for lifetime access to the Brezel tutorials and pattern.

Q: What do I get when I sign up for the LYS KAL?
A: When you register with Longmont Yarn Shoppe KAL you will have access to our 2 Hybrid Meet ups (zoom and in person), a 10% discount for your Brezel sweater yarn and a chance to purchase a Steeking Kit and souvenir pretzel pin at a special rate - available to the 1st 24 participants who register for the LYS KAL.  And last of all 2 lucky LYS KAL participants will be drawn from our Random Number Generator to win a 25.00 Gift Certificate to Longmont Yarn Shoppe!

Q: Are there other yarns to choose from?
A: Yes - Marie has suggested a variety of yarns. Other yarns that LYS carries that Marie suggest include Coastal and Remix Light. You can shop for these yarns through LYS as well, and we can special order these if we do not have the quantity you need for your project on the shelf. A third option is Arroyo by Malabrigo. We regret we cannot take special orders for Arroyo due to the variable inventory at Malabrigo, but you are welcome to shop off our wall for this yarn.

Q: I am a member of Knit Camp already so I have access to the KAL. Can I sign up for the LYS KAL as well?
A: Of course- we'd love to have you join us and enjoy the 10% yarn discount, our Hybrid KAL meetups with Christie and Gail and have access to our special Steeking Kit! You can register for the KAL here!
