Tints, Tones & Knitting two (colours) Together Fiber Friday with Fiona Ellis via ZOOM

Working with colour can be so much fun! And dreaming up your own colour story is very rewarding. In this seminar Fiona will look at the principles of colour theory and show how they can be applied to knitted projects. Understanding how color temperature, tonal value, complimentary and analogous color schemes (along with many other terms) impact our knitted projects can be an invaluable tool when it comes to selecting colours for our projects. Fiona will also share what inspires her colour palettes and encourage you to look for sources to use as springboards for your own unique ideas.

Materials: 1-3 images showing colours that you find appealing, part balls (a few yards each) of medium weight yarns that reflect the images, bring as many colours as you can, small piece of plain cardboard, scissors, sticking tape. Optional: squared paper, coloured pencils.

Homework: none.

This program begins at 6 Eastern, 5 Central, 4 Mountain, 3 Pacific and will be recorded.

Your zoom link and any handouts will be sent to you the evening before the presentation.

A link to the recorded version of this class will be emailed within 24 hours of the class which students can watch for 7 days.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: for all skill levels from Advanced beginner to Advanced level
Instructor: Fiona Ellis
Instructor Bio: Fiona Ellis's career is certainly one about escapism. After pursuing a sensible career in laboratory work for textile production and colour cosmetic formulation, Fiona escaped from career-captivity in the early 1990's to pursue fashion design at De Montfort University. She graduated with a degree specializing in Knitwear Design. Fiona then founded her independent design business, selling designs to major fashion houses in New York, Paris and London. Her contacts in New York helped her to add design for the independent knitter to her repertoire. This led to her published patterns in major print and on-line magazines, and two successful books published by Random House. Along with having classes available on the Craftsy platform, she is now also a qualified yoga instructor. Through her workshops Fiona's aim is to help people escape from the mundane and bring creative design sensibilities to their knitting.
