"I thoroughly enjoyed the Fiber Friday sessions. So much so that I signed up again for 2024.  The instructors were so knowledgeable and approachable for questions during the zooms.  I learned new techniques which will be helpful. The only downside is my project que has grown exponentially (but have no fear, my stash can keep up)! ???? "                  — Donna H.

"I did all the Fiber Friday this past fall. Every session gave me a learning experience, big, small or something I never thought about and now use.  We can always learn something.
LIFE is GOOD!"                                                                                                                                       - Nancy K.

Overview of Six Sweater Construction Types with Ann Budd VIA ZOOM!
September 6, 2024

Sweaters are characterized by the way the sleeves are joined to the body. In this one-hour class you’ll learn the basics of six sweater types—Circular Yoke, Raglan, Drop Shoulder, Modified-Drop Shoulder, Set-In Sleeve, and Saddle Shoulder.

From the simplest boxy shape to the most tailored silhouette, the construction type influences how a sweater fits the body. Each type lends itself to distinct design possibilities, whether knitted from the bottom up (as in The Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns) or from the top down (as in The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters), and whether knitted in pieces or seamlessly.

This is a Live One Time Zoom event at 6 Eastern, 5 Central, 4 Mountain, 3 Pacific. This class is recorded and you can access the recording for 1 week after the class.

Reading Your Knitting with Ann Budd VIA ZOOM!
September 13, 2024

Most knitters run into problems when they aren’t able to “read their knitting”—that is, they can’t recognize where they are in a pattern by simply looking at the stitches on the needles or in the fabric below the needles. How do you tell where you are when you’ve put your knitting down in the middle of row? Can you tell how many rows you’ve knitted since the last increase, or decrease? How do you know what type of increase or decrease was worked? In this class, Ann will examine how the basic stitches look in a piece of knitting and how those stitches are represented in charts.

This is a Live One Time Zoom event at 6 Eastern, 5 Central, 4 Mountain, 3 Pacific. This class is recorded and you can access the recording for 1 week after the class.

Too often knitting comes to a screeching halt (usually late at night) when we find mistakes that we’re unable to correct. In this class, Ann will demonstrate fixing common mistakes, including stitch mount, ripping out, picking up single and a series of dropped stitches (including edge stitches), and reversing the direction of a cable or correcting a mistake in a lace pattern several rows below the needles.

How it Works

"The class worked really well over Zoom. Stephanie did a great job of demonstrating the techniques needed, and had two cameras going so we could see her face and her hands while she was teaching. It was nice to interact with the other class members, too." - Cheryl A.

About Online Classes with Longmont Yarn Shoppe

We have identified a number of classes that lend themselves to being offered in a virtual classroom via Zoom. Our teachers are very knowledgeable and experienced in the topic they are teaching, and will be using 2 cameras for all classes (there may not be 2 cameras for KALs and CALS) so you can not only see and hear them, they can also demonstrate what they are teaching as well.  Supplies must be shipped in advance of the class so please plan accordingly.

We recommend all students use a device larger than a phone to be able to see what is being taught.

We stand behind our programs. If you try online learning and decide it isn’t a fit, we will refund 100% of your class fee, or it can be transferred to an in-store class once we are open to the public again.

We do ask that you use yarn and products from LYS for our Knit/Crochet-A-Longs and our classes.

There are 2 reasons for this:

  1. We recommend yarn we know you will have success with. Learning a new skill is much more rewarding using the proper tools and resources. When students use materials other than what is suggested we can't assure your success.
  2.   Frankly, we exist only with your support. We need our community to shop with us so we can be here for the long haul. We bring in additional inventory to support classes, in anticipation of student purchases.
