The Women in Colorado History Collection is a celebration of some of the amazing and legendary Colorado women who paved the way for the rest who follow.  Hand dyed in Longmont, CO by fiber artist and designer Jennifer Miller of Theodora's Pearls, this collection is sure to inspire some amazing projects. 

The base of Palladio fingering is a favorite of the Longmont Yarn Shoppe community, and a treat to the hand to knit and crochet with.  Each skein is a luxury blend of 75% Superwash Merino/ 15% Cashmere/ 10%Silk 
115g, 410 Yards/skein. 


Ava T. Coleman
- contemporary knitting designer, teacher, knitting researcher & historian, & State Treasure of Colorado. Teacher & facilitator, bringing almost-lost needlework traditions of Eastern Europe back to the needlework world. Author of patterns still available on Ravelry.  Color inspiration: ivory, pale yellow, peach & coral, referencing Ava’s heritage knitting & baby patterns.
Gudy Gaskill - Gudrun Gaskill, a member of the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame, was a mountaineer & the driving force behind the creation of the Colorado Trail. Gudy helped plan the 567 mile hiking, biking, & horseback trail between Denver & Durango. She recruited & directed many teams of volunteers during the summer months beginning in the 1970s. Color inspiration: sky blue, emerald green, white of high Rocky Mountain valleys & trails 

Isabella Bird, a 19th Century explorer, writer, photographer & naturalist. Author of A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains, in which she details her time in Longmont, Estes Park, (the future) Rocky Mountain National Park, & climbing Long’s Peak, a 14,000+ peak visible from Longmont. Her wonderful account is particularly charming as she details the many beautiful colors of the mountain valleys & peaks. 
 Color inspiration: deep canyons & peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park: peacock blue, dark red, dark silver & white.
Hattie McDaniel - black actress, singer, songwriter, & comedian, grew up in Fort Collins & in Denver. McDaniel was the first black actor to win the Academy Award - for her performance in Gone With the Wind. She attended the awards ceremony, but was required to sit at a segregated table at the side of the auditorium. She was named to the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010.  Color inspiration: black & white of segregation; gold of Academy Award statue.  

Polly Baca - first woman & first Hispanic elected to the Colorado State Senate. Key policy positions included farm worker’s rights; equality in banking; union & worker organizing. Born in Weld County, raised in Greeley, graduate of Colorado State University. Color inspiration: green & gold of agriculture & finance.

Temple Grandin - American scientist, academic, & animal behaviorist; advocate for autism rights. Professor at Colorado State University. Architect of humane animal treatment in processing plants that is widely used across the world.  Color inspiration: bovine chocolate brown & black with rainbow for autism activism. 

Kuner-Empson Cannery Workers - located in Longmont, Colorado, the Kuner-Empson Cannery operated from 1892 to 1970, processing the agricultural products of the northern Front Range. Many women were employed in the processing of peas, pumpkins, beans, corn, & more. We gratefully acknowledge the contributions of all agricultural & food processing workers in the Longmont area. Color inspiration: three greens, calling forward agricultural growth & abundance.

Chiyo Kanemoto - native of Lafayette, Colorado; farmer &  community activist & leader in Longmont. Provided endowment & leadership in many local organizations, including the Longmont Buddhist Temple in Kanemoto Park. Color inspiration: aqua, chocolate brown, & cream of the Longmont Buddhist Temple.
