Fiberside Chats: Ali Pate - Road Trip Sock Yarn November 23, 2025
Registration will close 1.5 hours before beginning of event.
How a Passion for Fiber Arts turned into a Mission of Goodness!
Join Ali Pate from Road Trip Sock Yarn® for a relaxed Chat about her lifelong passion for fiber arts and how yarn dyeing became her “thing” as she runs her one-person, home-based studio! We will also learn about her mission to create a more environmentally friendly dyeing process. Ali wholeheartedly believes that every small, positive action contributes to a larger impact, which inspired her to launch her Greater Front Range Dye Practices.
The thrill of a good road trip often fuels her inspiration for dye creations. However, giving back to the community is a top priority and key motivator in her collection development. Along with her commitment to environmental sustainability and community connection, Ali has a deep love for animals. She’s excited to share details of the non-profits she's collaborated with on her journey to foster positive change.
Join us for this upbeat Fiberside Chat in this season of Thanksgiving! In true Ali style, she will make a monetary donation to a worthy not-for-profit with dollars generated from this event. Let’s get our yarn balls rolling together!
Bio:
Ali Pate was raised in Punxsutawney, PA. A very rural environment led to an active childhood with time invested in community service. Later, Ali attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a BFA in 2003 with a concentration in ceramics and an MA in 2007 with a concentration in fibers. After moving to Denver, CO in 2008, she established a studio and began Herd of Cats. In 2018, Herd of Cats took a major twist to include yarn dyeing, and she created Road Trip Sock Yarn. They developed hand-in-hand, and Meow Mélange collections were born, inspired by adoptable cats. Monetary donations are made based on sales to help animals during their stay at shelters. Road Trip Sock Yarns (RTSY) explores local and regional history, emphasizing uniqueness with small batch dyeing at its very best. All colors are extremely limited and rarely revisited. Today, Ali has launched her “Be Better, Do Better” self-campaign to improve her environmental impact in the process of yarn dyeing. Her strategies include renewable energy sources, water collection for reuse in dyeing, post-consumer recycled materials for packaging and tags, along with many seemingly minor details to improve environmental footprints throughout the entire process.
