In this Fiberside Chat Jenny Schu will be sharing her weaving journey, beginning in college where her fiber artwork incorporated hand dyeing yarns for the draft of a piece all the way through to fixing & adapting mistakes for expertly finished pieces. Her early interest in the unique structures of Double Weave Pick Up and Theo Moorman Inlay have continued to be the focus for her creativity. Jenny will do a live demo using the Double Weave piece currently on her loom and talk about her design process, personal inspiration and how her weavings start with a concept which eventually comes to fruition.  Whether you’re an experienced weaver or have a newly developed interest there’s something for everyone in this Chat!

Jenny Schu has been dabbling in various fiber art techniques since elementary school. While at the University of Michigan she focused her BFA on Fibers and jewelry which are the primary arts she still works on today. Jenny is known for her large woven works and beadwork which have featured in numerous galleries and exhibits. She has exhibited nationally with Handweavers Guild of America’s Exhibits and Conference; she has been awarded grants and received numerous awards from exhibits over the years. In 2013 Jenny accepted Best in Show and People’s Choice Awards at MLH Conference on her piece “She Can’t See the Forest through the Trees.”  In 2014 she had the honor of attending two artist residencies including being the Artist-in-Residence at the esteemed Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park program. Jenny enjoys offering workshops and programs through various Fiber Guilds and teaches bead weaving to interested students. You can currently see her jewelry in galleries in Michigan (including the UP) and Ohio. See more about Jenny at jennyschu.net
