Hand Dyed Mawata Silk Hankies

100% Mulberry Silk Fiber known as Mawata or Bombyx Silk

0.5 oz per hankie

100% Mulberry Silk Fiber known as Mawata or Bombyx Silk

Hand Dyed Silk Hankies, dyed with professional acid dyes by me, utilizing colorways I have designed myself. These are not dyed in professional dyeing houses in bulk. Small batches of hankies 1 - 2 ounces (28-56grams) are hand dyed and then divided into 0.5 oz (14 grams) each. Each batch is unique and different consisting of various colors along with random white areas.

Hankies were left in the dye bath until all color was exhausted then rinsed to remove any residual dye; however as with any dyed product - care should be taken when wet felting or washing. COLD water wash only.

Mawata Silk Hankies are 100% silk fiber from a silk cocoon that has been degummed and then stretched onto a 10 × 10 square form. The hankies come in a stack of multiple very thin layers that you peel off individually. They are beautiful felted - just place them on top of your design before felting to get a cobweb effect. They can also be spun by stretching the hankie into a big loop and pulling as thin as you want. You can also knit directly from them once stretched - they do not need to be spun. They are also used in paper making and silk fusion projects.

Hankies may contain small particles from the cocoon; hankies may have a small puncture hole in 1 of the corners - they come this way from the manufacturer.

Helpful Hint: When working with silk hankies it may help to wear surgical gloves. Silk fibers LOVE to attach themselves to dry skin or rough fingernails. I find wearing the gloves helps.
