FIBER FRIDAY Flexible Cast Ons and Bind Offs with Ann Budd via ZOOM!

Flexible cast-ons and bind-offs are crucial for socks that have to stretch over heels and neckbands that have to stretch over heads. In this class Ann will demonstrate a variety of her favorite methods starting and ending socks or the edges of sweaters, including Cable, Old Norwegian (also called German Twisted), and Invisible Rib (also called Tubular) cast-ons, as well as Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy, Sewn, Invisible Rib (also called Tubular) bind-offs.

This is a one time LIVE zoom event.  Your Zoom Link will be emailed to you the day before in the evening.  If you do not see it please check your spam filter.

THIS CLASS will be recorded. The recording will be sent within 24 hours to registered students to view for up to 7 days from the class.

An illustrated handout of the various techniques will be provided.

If you’d like to practice the techniques demonstrated, you’ll need worsted-weight yarn, size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles, tapestry needle, and three homework swatches.

Flexible Cast-Ons and Bind-Offs Swatch Instructions You will need worsted-weight yarn, size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) needles, and 3 stitch holders. Knit a total of three (3) swatches for the bind-off techniques.

Knit one (1) swatch in stockinette stitch: Cast on 12 stitches and work in stockinette stitch (knit right-side rows; purl wrong-side rows) until piece measures about 2” (5 cm), ending with a wrong-side (purl) row. Cut yarn, leaving a 24” (60 cm) tail, unless you plan to use contrasting yarn for the bind-off, in which case, leave just a 6” (15 cm) tail. Place stitches on a holder.

Knit one (2) swatches in k1, p1 rib: Cast on 12 stitches and work in k1, p1 rib (be sure to begin each row with k1) until piece measures about 2” (5 cm). Cut yarn, leaving a 24” (60 cm) tail, unless you plan to use contrasting yarn for the bind-off, in which case, leave just a 6” (15 cm) tail. Place stitches on a holder.

Bring swatches, knitting needles, tapestry needle, and contrasting yarn (if desired) to class.
